This new feature is so goated, I can finally be internet goblin, not worrying much about critters & automated replies, open yet filtered internet in this huge world, a network of oomfies & wonder has begun!~
Really, frens are the greatest filter & answer to make the internet human & alive.. I always said that & it has been my compass since the beginning of existing here.
But got wrecked at the end of 2025, when the wave of llms sounding human started to kick-in, testing of new algo made spammers nuts aggressive in every slightly banger post.
If the current internet moves toward a “friens of freins” orientation, no matter how slopper it goes, as long as they don’t belong to your network circle, it doesn’t matter.
If someone meets a small/relatively new account, they can join an already established network according to their post behavior, website/blog, literacy, & taste.
A society with high literacy in tech & cogsec, the internet of fresn will feel “real” no matter how advanced machine god passing every turing test.
The death of “personal brands & influencoor”, the rise of consciousness projection, well balanced between signal & noise. Not only that, I think the coolest one is punishing the supply of a massive narcissistic ego trait to demand your courage of existing.
Gatekeeping interaction based on network is the right direction. It makes this app like a global group chat. And imo, gatekeeping with a weight of price is good too.
If all features are wide open to all users, it’s kinda pointless, with no sunk cost for spammer calamity. Cuz we’re already living in a different paradigm, unlike before 2023. More niche platforms like bluesky, fediverse, mastodon, nostr are not safe from these kinds of problems either.
One strong proof of human on the surface internet will be: “show me ur ferns”
