I still remember when I was in awe with OpenAI trying their GPT-2, in awe looking at AnimeGAN outputs, in awe with computer vision, moving cursor with hand gesture and face tracking, sound synthesizer, voice recognition, cracked chess engine, etc.. All that happened before the 2020s, I liked quantized open models, been fetching them since early 2023.

But in these past years, I haven’t felt as excited about tech. I’ve been trying to pinpoint what’s wrong with all of this.

Turns out, I hate how all of these end, I don’t like how the gate is wide open in societies. I feel like those things were meant to be special for nerds. Never meant to be deployed to the big world like some Pandora’s box.

I love art, I love tech, I love AI even the generative kind, I learned about them.. But internet noise, scrolling on timelines often makes my curiosity dimmed to disgust. I don’t know how exactly, hard to describe.

Maybe retracting self from consumption and giving attention to creating what we can even though it’s meaningless is always the answer.

My highest respect for those who actually put effort to create, effort to build, effort to make, effort to push their craft. Whether internally trying to be better as individuals, self-improve yadayada, or externally, making the world a slightly more beautiful place to live.

I just want to yaps about it :‘)
