Operating system as a video game itself.

You distribute it as a virtual machine image, compatible with nearly any machine. Players simply run a single-tap automated executable script, and boom they’re launched into a desktop graphic interface that serves as the menu.

You craft a story, system, and world-building based on a real, fully functional Linux/BSD operating system. Every progression file is encrypted, tied to the player’s level advancement. As players complete objectives, they gain passwords or access to new files. For the final stage, players are granted root access, unlocking a god mode experience.

This approach doesn’t limit creativity to a specific game engine but leverages the entire freaking system. You can integrate diverse game mechanics: action, RPG, FPS, 2D, 3D, you name it, all as part of an orchestrated experience. It also teaches players about the beauty of computer world directly.

The possibilities are literally endless, and I believe a full-blown operating system is the endgame of a game engine.

Why doesn’t any person do that?
