Is it only me or… Now I see on Youtube & Instagram, my country get started to Veo 3 swarms. the comments are like society doesn’t think much about it, they even feel prouder. Idk, but my chest aches just seeing the internet become really dead in real time.
I rarely speak about my society, but if you want to know which country will face the most catastrophe from the effects of AI advancement, look at Indonesia.
Indonesia is a huge market in global consumerism. Sentiment here about AI is the most “positive” but unlike China, Indonesia didn’t have impact in tech beside their huge netizens population. Indonesia is like a lab mouse for global product testing, whether from the west or the east.
It’s kinda funny seeing people in Shenzhen and San Francisco fafoing their products, which end up affecting generation gap and culture in Indonesia more than anywhere else.
Indonesia’s media and internet is moved by Meta and Bytedance algorithm: Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, Tiktok. And I can see the vibe-shift becoming so dystopian.
The country’s psyche is becoming unstable because it lacks a clear identity and power. AI fueling an existential crisis, it’s slowly shaking the country’s core beliefs about the power of diversity, politics, religion, and education are becoming extremely vague on every side.
I’ve seen and know people at a high order level, and how they operate with AI is far from basic understanding, they only move with virality and practicality as their compass, or else they chose to be in denial.
Lately, I see that Indonesia internet landscape have become a huge cesspool of slop, misinformation, and cult-like behavior. Now it’s getting hard to get close to the people I used to know, and it becomes harder and harder to connect with them with current understanding. Somehow, that makes me sadge..
